The Jewish Student Union is the unifying organization for all groups at Washington University that plan or participate in programming that caters to Jewish students. JSU works to connect the Jewish community, creating a means for all Jewish student groups to communicate and work together on programming initiatives.

The Jewish Student Union is led by an executive board of four students elected for a year-long term and a general board consisting of representatives from every Jewish student group on campus (see below). The groups that make up the Jewish Student Union strive to create opportunities targeting the diverse interests and needs of Jewish students. These groups focus on activities ranging from arts and culture to community service, holiday programs and political activism. Because these programs are created to address student interests, they are constantly growing and changing, with new groups forming each year. Below is our Mission, a statement of our goals and ideals of our organization:

Mission

The Jewish Student Union seeks to maximize opportunities for Jewish students to explore, celebrate, and sanctify life in a Jewish way. The Jewish Student Union also strives to unify Jewish student groups and coordinate their efforts by providing a forum for communication. The Jewish Student Union’s programming reflects the interests of students and consequently evolves as students’ interests change. In addition, the student groups that make up the Jewish Student Union should be representative of the Jewish student body at Washington University in St. Louis. Students are empowered to take responsibility for their Jewish identity, whether they wish to participate in a community service project, express themselves artistically, participate in a social event, engage in formal Jewish learning, or attend religious services. Any student may participate in Jewish Student Union sponsored programs – no membership is required. The Jewish Student Union is committed to a pluralistic vision of Judaism.

The entire JSU board encourages you to contact any board member with your questions, suggestions, or just to say hi!
